designboom has published The Meadows, our hotel and restaurant in the Cotswolds. The piece runs from the existing stone buildings, through the contemporary extension that joins them, to the garden the whole scheme is arranged around.
It picks up what the project is really about: local materials, chosen to keep the carbon cost down and to keep the building tied to where it stands; a restaurant that opens through full-height bifold doors onto the courtyard and carries on outside, with the kitchen fed from the garden; solar panels over the glazed link, rainwater harvesting and greywater reuse for irrigation. The landscape here is not a backdrop, it sets the plan.
The Meadows was commissioned by a small group of clients who wanted a rural retreat that sits with its surroundings rather than on top of them. You can read the full piece here: stone-built meadows boutique hotel takes shape around gardens in rural UK.
